Photo of the week | Aug 7 2009 | Catherine

This weeks photo of the week is of my wife, Catherine. She came along on a Minnesota weekend for a wedding, and on the way back we stopped at a couple places to take some photographs. She is a great sport, always allowing me to photograph her when I feel like it… Anyways, another thing about this photo is that the more I photograph the more I lean towards natural looking images in both color and black and white. My post processing is becoming more just about the color or the tones in a black and white image… and less about crazy photoshop actions or styles. I believe a good color or black and white photograph are timeless, while stylized photographs may look antiquated sometime in the future? So, enjoy this image of my wife Catherine…

Photo of the week | June 13 2009 | Kyle and Ian’s Wedding

I missed a few there, hey? Sorry about that. Working 2 full time jobs can get a bit crazy, and the past weeks one of those jobs went into massive overtime… which did not help the work piling up on this end (the photography). Anyways, this weeks photo(s) come from Kyle and Ian’s wedding, which Simon and I photographed last weekend. It actually seems like a lot longer ago than that… Time flies…

Since this weekend is also “sneak peek” weekend, these are also a sneak peek at Kyle and Ian’s wedding…

Enough about that, here are some images:

The photo of the week this week is of a man reading his newspaper. Nothing special, nothing groundbreaking… I just like this image. Sometimes as I am walking around I wonder why I take certain photos… Sometimes it is just a reaction, you see something, somewhere the brain says, hey snap a picture NOW, and before you can even think about it, there is a new photo captured in your camera. It is usually these types of photos that I love best. The moments where you don’t even have a second to think about it, you just make the picture…

This weeks image of the week is of a lovely couple, Ebony and Tope. Simon and I traveled to Minneapolis a couple weeks back and had a crazy weekend, with a lot of scheduled photographs to take. One of which was an engagement session with Ebony and Tope. More images to come, but for now here is one:

This weeks photo of the week, “Drops with Night Lights”. This photo was taken late at night as I was sitting in my car. It was raining outside, it was peaceful and there were city lights in the background. It was one of those moments when everything seemed peaceful, just for a couple of seconds… So in that moment I took out my camera, quietly as to not disturb the moment, and snapped a few photographs of raindrops collecting on the windshield of my car.

I am posting this weeks photo of the week a little early. I have noticed that I am very busy on the weekend making photographs, working, and find myself not in front of a computer, so I miss posting… So I am going to try and post the photo of the week a little earlier in the week… when I am in front of a computer… Anyways, this weeks photo comes from Mexico as well. Playa del Carmen. This was on one of my walks in the residential area of Playa. I happened upon this scene of a woman sweeping the street, and a dog walking away in the middle of the street. The sun was low and warm, and I quickly snapped a few images…

I missed last weeks Photo of the Week due to the fact that I was in Mexico on vacation celebrating my one year anniversary with my wife Catherine. We had a wonderful time. I did not however have a computer there, so I couldn’t do anything with the photos I was taking while there, including posting one here. Now that I am back I am slowly getting myself back into the fast pace of life.

This weeks Photo of the Week comes from Mexico. I am not very good at Tourist type photographs of people standing in front of what they did or saw, etc. I spent most of our time in Playa outside the Tourist area, photographing what I would consider possibly more of the real Mexico. This weeks photo is from one of those adventures, check it out.

Photo of the week | March 28 2009

So I have been going back and forth about the “Photo of the week”. The more I read and listen to people about business, the more I hear that blogs and sites should only be about a specific thing. So in my case the blog and the site should only be about one thing, a narrow focus into photography, such as wedding photography. So I took a break from the photo of the week, and was concentrating on focusing 100% of my thoughts on wedding photography. But the more I think about it, the more I really love the photo of the week. I love having something to share each week, and I love having something different to do and share… So I think I am going to keep the photo of the week going. I am going to try and make this blog a bit diverse, since I love to shoot a wide range of subjects. I think it will show a larger spectrum of what I do. Our main site will be a bit more focused, but here on the blog, I am going to roam a little, post things I love, things I am working on… Including the “Photo of the week…” So with all that being said, here is this weeks photo:

This weeks shot comes from a shoot that Simon and I did last weekend with Emmanuel. We wandered the streets of Milwaukee and created some nice images. I am currently editing the shoot, so look out for some more of Emmanuel soon…

Let me know what you think about the “Photo of the week” I would be interested to hear what people thought? Should I keep it up?

This weeks photo of the week comes from a disposable camera. I have been having a lot of fun using low-fi camera such as disposables, Holgas, Dianas, Pinholes, and others. It is a lot of fun. What I think it does for me is lets me focus more on content and really push myself to try and make a good image with not much to work with. Sometimes it is very frustrating, because there is that lack of control, since there really is not a lot you can control… Pop some film in, you are stuck to that speed, there is no exposure control, so you kind of have to look for light that will fit with what you have… etc… It is a challenge and it is a lot of fun. I think it also shows that you can make nice and unique images with not a lot of equipment. Nice equipment is nice, and I love all the gear that I have, but sometimes it is so nice to reject it all, grab a lo-fi camera and go for a walk and just have fun…

This photo is from Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. My wife took me there last weekend for a little birthday getaway. I brought a couple disposable cameras with me, and shot through two of them. This was one of my favorite images from the walk. The camera I used I received free from a friend, who had a bunch of leftovers from her company, so really it cost me next to nothing, since I didn’t even have to pay for the camera…

More images from disposable cameras can be found in my Flickr set Disposable.
