Sara and Kurt’s Madison Engagement

Sara and Kurt got to take a little stay-cation from work… relax, recharge and make some engagement photos! Simon and I jetted off to Madison for the shoot, and while the weather wasn’t looking so good, we risked it as there were not many other days to choose that would work with both of our schedules… so we played in the rain… and the cold. We ran around the Arboretum for a while and then when the rain picked up we headed down to State Street to duck in and under things. We ended up at the Wisconsin Capitol building when the rain and wind really started to pick up… but it held off just enough to finish up the session.

After the shoot Sara sent us home with snacks, which was awesome for the ride home. The cheesecake bites were my all time favorite.

Thank you Sara and Kurt. Here are my favorites from the session.

Craig and Kelly – Milwaukee Engagement

Craig and Kelly are great. I have known Craig most of my life… even before I remember life. Craig is my cousin, and we are right about the same age… so it was only natural that during family gatherings we would end up hanging out. I met Kelly not too long ago at one of those family get togethers. I knew from the first time I met her that she was great for Craig. So easy going, down to earth and all around laid back kind of personality. She fit right in.

Craig proposed to Kelly down by the lake. The first photograph below, by the big red lighthouse thing, is where he proposed. I was told that Kelly found out about the proposal, so the first time they went down there, she thought it was for the proposal, but to throw her off the trail, Craig thought he would wait… So it was a “fake-out” of sorts. Shortly after that he actually proposed…

It was such an honor to be able to photograph them in their engagement, and later next year photograph their wedding.

Sarah and Tyler – Milwaukee Engagement

I have been friends with Sarah for quite a while. We met through mutual friends, I believe at a campfire? All I know is it was many years ago. When Sarah first contacted me, it was just to let me know that she was engaged. Later she contacted me again to inquire on hiring Valo to shoot her wedding. I was very stoked to hear Sarah and Tyler wanted to hire me to shoot their wedding. If there is one thing I like more than photographing a wedding, it is photographing a friends wedding.

The engagement session you are about to look at (hopefully, that is if you are still reading this… I usually skip ahead to the photos and then come back to read stuff) was a TON of fun. The locations were very cool, thanks to the scouting of Tyler. I got a lot of emails from them leading up to their engagement session of other e-sessions they had found around the Internet, photos from a scouting mission Tyler went on, and a lot of thoughts on location. This was great, because it let me see a little of what they were thinking of, and it made smile every time I got one of their emails, because I could tell how excited they were. When a couple is very excited about shooting, it makes my level of excitement rise as well. And so it kept amplifying, until we met up at Alterra and started shooting… Here is what I created on a perfect day, with a great couple…

Dana and Nick – Madison Wisconsin Engagement

We met up with Dana and Nick at the Orpheum early on a Saturday morning. We went from there and ran around Madison’s State St making some photographs of the two of them. Tons of fun to work with, check out some of the photos from the day:
