Tina and Tim – Villa Filomena – Wedding

There isn’t much to say about this wedding that the photos don’t say. Super awesome bride and groom. Really great grandparents that are both hilarious and fantastic. Dancing and epicly large family photos. Yeah. All taking place at the Villa Filomena in Milwaukee. Check it out yall!

Sara and Chris – Villa Terrace – Wedding

One of the cool things about being a wedding photographer is that you get a chance to see into peoples lives. From what they wear, to how they deal with pressure, to how they choose to get married. Every wedding is different. Some are reeeeeealy similar, but they still have a bit of the couple put into the wedding and that makes it unique.

Sara and Chris had ideas about how they wanted their wedding day to go and I am glad that Jake and I could be along for the ride. A small wedding at Sara’s fathers house is what they decided on with a larger reception at the Villa Terrace afterwords to celebrate. It was so much fun being about 1/8th of the people who were attending. As they stood on the deck and exchanged vows, it was great to see the emotion and feel it coming from everyone attending.

It was a bit chilly and overcast, but it didn’t rain and we were able to get some really great photos. Here is a glimpse into their small wedding and fantastic reception.

Dan and Camille – Minneapolis – Wedding

Sometimes I don’t get to blog as much as I would like. I am working on changing that so there should be quite a few blogs coming out this week. We have a ton of fantastic shoots and get to create so many great photos that I want to share with everyone.

This wedding is from last year in October. These two are fantastic folks that I got the pleasure of going to school with. They are both amazing musicians and are super in love. I was really excited when they asked Valo to shoot their wedding. Cami put a ton of work into her wedding and I hope it shows in these photos.

Lisa and Josh – Pfister Hotel – Wedding

So… sometimes people find us in odd ways. They hear of Valo from a friend of a friend of a friend who knew me 5 years ago and we played a basketball game together. This is much more odd. Jake and I were shooting a wedding at the Intercontinental Hotel and went to Blu on top of the Pfister to shoot some photos with our bride and groom. The bridesmaids got the bride and disappeared. That isn’t totally abnormal, but when your looking for them and not one is around in a not so large place, it gets confusing. Eventually a bridesmaid runs into the bar and grabs me and drags me into the ladies bathroom… to take photos because there are awesome windows and amazing light. All the ladies were in there and I snapped a few photos and was in the middle of rocking some shots with the bride when someone walks in. Not a part of the wedding party, it was a little odd… She walks in, looks at me, looks at the bride, looks at me. Simon “uh… were taking photos because the light is awesome…” Her “Oh… cool, do you have a card? I’m getting married here in a few months”

That was how I met Lisa. Super funny story. Fast forward a few months and we are shooting Lisa and Josh’s wedding at the Big Red Church right next to the Marquette campus and having a reception at the Pfister Hotel downtown. The wedding was super fun, great light, and shared a bridesmaid with the wedding that we shot the day before.

Lisa is awesome! Josh is awesome! and oh yeah… thanks to the grooms men who got us shots in wine glasses…

Lindsay and Michael – 1451 Renaissance Place – Wedding

Uhm hm. Rehearsal dinner. Pig roast. 1451 Renaissance Place. Ultimate Frisbee. Chocolate Fountain. Art Gallery. The Get Down Guests. So many good things and people in this wedding. Jake and I rocked it and had too much fun with Lindsay and Michael.

Crissy and Spencer – Milwaukee Art Museum – Wedding

I would not call Milwaukee a very modern city. Lots of brick, old buildings, and things kinda falling apart. Crissy and Spencer found the most modern, most elegantly designed, and coolest building in town and decided to get married there. This was Jake and I’s first wedding at the museum and we were stoked. Crissy and Spencer were coming in from LA (we have had a ton of LA and NY brides… go figure), and were ready to rock the town. The building was beautiful, the dress and decor were fantastic and the people were really fun. Dancing went late into the night and if we weren’t absolutely beat from the wedding, we would have rocked the after party too.

Maren and Craig – Wisconsin Club – Wedding

This was a super fun and beautiful wedding that we got to shoot last year at the Wisconsin Club in Downtown Milwaukee. Maren and Craig were a lot of fun to photograph and the day was absolutely amazing.

Kelly and David – EAA – Wedding

Sometimes there are issues. Kelly and David had an issue that they did not have a photographer and their wedding was about two weeks away. I would say that is an issue. A big issue. Well, luckily we did not have a wedding booked that day so we were able to help them out and I am so glad that we were able to rock their day.

Both David and Kelly are pilots and so naturally the best place to get married is the EAA in Oshkosh WI. Lots of their friends flew in and the wedding went off without a hitch. Check out their beautiful photos below:

Donna and Alex – Minneapolis Wedding

It’s been a while since my last blog post. Shame on me. I promise I will get out more content and show you all what has been going on in Valo land a bit more regularly from now on.

That being said, this next blog is a bit personal to me. I had the pleasure of photographing my sisters wedding in Minneapolis. I think she is pretty awesome and Alex is not to bad as well. It’s interesting shooting a family wedding because there are always tons of people who want to catch up with how things are going and how the biz is. You kinda have to juggle shooting with talking and make sure that your not distracted during the big moments (The kiss, the first dance, etc.)

Since it was my sisters wedding, I could pretty much do whatever I wanted. It’s always sweet to have a lot of wiggle room to make art happen. I suggested to her that after the wedding we should go downtown and take some photos. She was all for it and we rocked some shots with the city lights in the background. They were really fun and came out beautiful.

Love you sis! Thanks for letting me shoot your wedding!

My wife said I could put up this photo if I put up the other one

Hope this doesn’t make you all dizzy…

Amy and Buster – Door County Wedding

Hot dang.  Jake and I had the opportunity to photograph an awesome wedding in Door County. Rio, France, Italy… these are all beautiful places, but dang… Door County just does something for me. Nicole and I went on a mini Honeymoon to the Orchid Inn right after our wedding and that is where we met Amy’s mother who owns the B&B. She told us about her daughter who had just opened an Irish Pub in town and so we decided that we would go check it out.  She also happened to tell us that Amy was engaged and didn’t have a photographer yet.

We chatted at the bar with Amy, talked about her wedding, and showed her some photos. A few weeks later we heard from her and she wanted to hire Jake and I! Sweet. We shot her engagement session in the Third Ward in Milwaukee earlier in the year and were stoked to shoot the wedding. Amy and Buster are super fun people and we knew that their wedding was going to be a riot. We were not disappointed!

The wedding took place at the Orchid Inn, which is built on the grounds of the Briggsville Gardens.  The Inn has a modern feel, which can be pretty rare in Door County (most places look a little like grandma. I love Grandma, but flower wall paper and I don’t always get along). The ceremony was outside and the weather was great. After we shot there, we hopped on a trolly and went to a few places to get some photos. The reception was at Kitty O’Reillys which is the pub that Amy and Buster own. The food was fantastic, the cake was great, and people had enough to drink. The DJ showed up and we all were groovin to Bon Jovi and Journey.
