So… sometimes people find us in odd ways. They hear of Valo from a friend of a friend of a friend who knew me 5 years ago and we played a basketball game together. This is much more odd. Jake and I were shooting a wedding at the Intercontinental Hotel and went to Blu on top of the Pfister to shoot some photos with our bride and groom. The bridesmaids got the bride and disappeared. That isn’t totally abnormal, but when your looking for them and not one is around in a not so large place, it gets confusing. Eventually a bridesmaid runs into the bar and grabs me and drags me into the ladies bathroom… to take photos because there are awesome windows and amazing light. All the ladies were in there and I snapped a few photos and was in the middle of rocking some shots with the bride when someone walks in. Not a part of the wedding party, it was a little odd… She walks in, looks at me, looks at the bride, looks at me. Simon “uh… were taking photos because the light is awesome…” Her “Oh… cool, do you have a card? I’m getting married here in a few months”
That was how I met Lisa. Super funny story. Fast forward a few months and we are shooting Lisa and Josh’s wedding at the Big Red Church right next to the Marquette campus and having a reception at the Pfister Hotel downtown. The wedding was super fun, great light, and shared a bridesmaid with the wedding that we shot the day before.
Lisa is awesome! Josh is awesome! and oh yeah… thanks to the grooms men who got us shots in wine glasses…

I would not call Milwaukee a very modern city. Lots of brick, old buildings, and things kinda falling apart. Crissy and Spencer found the most modern, most elegantly designed, and coolest building in town and decided to get married there. This was Jake and I’s first wedding at the museum and we were stoked. Crissy and Spencer were coming in from LA (we have had a ton of LA and NY brides… go figure), and were ready to rock the town. The building was beautiful, the dress and decor were fantastic and the people were really fun. Dancing went late into the night and if we weren’t absolutely beat from the wedding, we would have rocked the after party too.

Hot dang. Jake and I had the opportunity to photograph an awesome wedding in Door County. Rio, France, Italy… these are all beautiful places, but dang… Door County just does something for me. Nicole and I went on a mini Honeymoon to the Orchid Inn right after our wedding and that is where we met Amy’s mother who owns the B&B. She told us about her daughter who had just opened an Irish Pub in town and so we decided that we would go check it out. She also happened to tell us that Amy was engaged and didn’t have a photographer yet.
We chatted at the bar with Amy, talked about her wedding, and showed her some photos. A few weeks later we heard from her and she wanted to hire Jake and I! Sweet. We shot her engagement session in the Third Ward in Milwaukee earlier in the year and were stoked to shoot the wedding. Amy and Buster are super fun people and we knew that their wedding was going to be a riot. We were not disappointed!
The wedding took place at the Orchid Inn, which is built on the grounds of the Briggsville Gardens. The Inn has a modern feel, which can be pretty rare in Door County (most places look a little like grandma. I love Grandma, but flower wall paper and I don’t always get along). The ceremony was outside and the weather was great. After we shot there, we hopped on a trolly and went to a few places to get some photos. The reception was at Kitty O’Reillys which is the pub that Amy and Buster own. The food was fantastic, the cake was great, and people had enough to drink. The DJ showed up and we all were groovin to Bon Jovi and Journey.
