Amy and Buster – Door County Wedding

Hot dang.  Jake and I had the opportunity to photograph an awesome wedding in Door County. Rio, France, Italy… these are all beautiful places, but dang… Door County just does something for me. Nicole and I went on a mini Honeymoon to the Orchid Inn right after our wedding and that is where we met Amy’s mother who owns the B&B. She told us about her daughter who had just opened an Irish Pub in town and so we decided that we would go check it out.  She also happened to tell us that Amy was engaged and didn’t have a photographer yet.

We chatted at the bar with Amy, talked about her wedding, and showed her some photos. A few weeks later we heard from her and she wanted to hire Jake and I! Sweet. We shot her engagement session in the Third Ward in Milwaukee earlier in the year and were stoked to shoot the wedding. Amy and Buster are super fun people and we knew that their wedding was going to be a riot. We were not disappointed!

The wedding took place at the Orchid Inn, which is built on the grounds of the Briggsville Gardens.  The Inn has a modern feel, which can be pretty rare in Door County (most places look a little like grandma. I love Grandma, but flower wall paper and I don’t always get along). The ceremony was outside and the weather was great. After we shot there, we hopped on a trolly and went to a few places to get some photos. The reception was at Kitty O’Reillys which is the pub that Amy and Buster own. The food was fantastic, the cake was great, and people had enough to drink. The DJ showed up and we all were groovin to Bon Jovi and Journey.

Sneak Peek – Chad and Holly – Before and After

Okay… so this is a dual purpose post.  In all of our packages with Valo Weddings we offer a DVD with the proofs for you to keep.  If you want to print them, put them on Facebook, or store them for your kids, you can do that.  Sometimes I get asked what the difference is between a proof and a retouched photo.  A proof photo is not a bad photo by any means, it is just a photo that hasn’t realized its full potential.

All of the proofs are color corrected and have a little contrast and saturation added to them, but they don’t have the special Valo touch that we put on all of the prints that are ordered from us or in your album.  Post processing doesn’t make a good shot, but it does make a good shot better.

Chad and Holly were a great couple to shoot because they were up for anything and were both looking fantastic.  It is amazing what type of art we can make when the couple trusts your eye and judgment.  I had so many good shots from this wedding I didn’t know which to post, so I just took two.  Hope you enjoy it.

Cleaning House

It has been a while since I have shot a wedding or a senior so most of my work has been stock.  I am working on getting my computer and storage cleaned up and ready for wedding season so that means I am going through a lot of older shoots, editing, deleating, and moving them.  Here are a few shots from a shoot I did at Decibel/Deep Bar a few months back.  My friend Kristin from Fringe Salon stopped by and did make up for the models and another friend, Stef of Star Fire Events helped me set the shoot up.  Big thanks to Dustin and Decibel for letting us use his place and run around like nut cases…

Jake

Jake

I am super stoked to be working with Jake Rodhe.  He is a creative guy with tons of ideas and action behind  his words.  We met eachother about two years ago on a Flickr walk in Milwaukee.  From there I have been admiering his work from afar.

I was inspired one day and emailed a few people who’s work I love to be a part of an ongoing project.  Jake was one of them.  From there we discussed several things.  One was our need to create and be around creative people.  Working in an office environment generally does not stimulate creative thought and generally does not encourage you to be creative.  We discussed starting a company together and from there the rest is history.

Jake is the stuff.  Check out his blog, his sites, and leave some love in the comment section:
